Venice, Florida is a coastal community that offers a resort style lifestyle year-round. Balmy tropical breezes, sunshine and blue skies make our outdoor living attractive to all walks of life. Outdoor living extends from family barbeques to golf, boating, fishing, hiking, picnics on the beach, state parks, beaches and waterfront dining. Venice is unique in that the Venice Inlet, also known as the Venice Jetty, allows boaters direct access from the Intracoastal Waterway to the Gulf of Mexico. That is gold to boaters. Vessels in many cities along the Gulf of Mexico must travel a substantial distance to gain access to the Gulf from the inland waterways.
We have a plethora of public beaches with no parking fees. You can walk directly from your car to the beach sand. Each beach is unique and offers fun in abundance. Caspersen Beach is known for fossil sharks teeth. This is one reason that Venice, Florida is known as the sharks tooth capital of the world. You can spend hours sifting the sand for these unique treasures. Brohard Paw Park is the only local beach where you can bring your four legged furry friends to the beach to swim. I swear, you can see them smile as they frolic in the water. Humpries park has both swimming on the beach side and fishing on the Venice Inlet side. You can reel in your dinner but be sure you have a fishing license which can be purchased on line very inexpensively.
Nearly every street in Venice is adorned with palm trees and tropical foilage. Everything is so easy to grow. This writer has cocoanuts, starfruit and coffee growing in his yard. Many residents grow their own orange, grapefruit and pineapple. Fragrant Plumeria, the plant that grows the Hawaiian lei flower, can be grown by braking off a stick and poking it in the ground.
Venice has top notch schools both academically and athletically. Our schools rate highly in state and national surveys. Venice High School consistently wins the State Championship for Football, Baseball and Volleyball.
Venice also has numerous public events throughout the year. Highlights are the Sharks Tooth Festival, Venice Christmas Boat Parade, Jazz Fest, and a number of street Art Festivals. The Venice Theatre is active putting on shows throughout the year.
